Adam and Cara Bell served in pastoral ministry for more than a decade. Over those years they also developed a passion and a burden for children and families who are impacted by the child welfare system. This all started, as many important things do, around a dining room table with great friends. Those friends were foster parents and they told Adam and Cara about the challenges these children and families face and about the great need for more foster families. This awareness led Adam and Cara to become foster parents and to open their home to children needing a safe and loving family.
Since that time the Bells have adopted two children from the foster care system, supported the successful reunification of many more with their biological families, started and led effective foster and adoptive care ministry in their local church, and became leaders in serving the children and families in their community. Now a family of six, the Bells continue to serve as foster parents. They became Foster and Adoptive Care Chaplains with Assemblies of God U.S. Missions in 2022 and founded For The One in 2024.
It is abundantly clear that there is a child welfare crisis in our country. At any given time, there are more than 300,000 children in foster care in the United States with over 100,000 of them waiting to be adopted. More than 20,000 children will age out of the foster care system this year alone. These children and young adults are in every community and the statistics about the likelihood of them becoming victims to homelessness, human trafficking, and other significant negative outcomes are staggering.
It is also abundantly clear that there are churches and faith communities who share in the calling to care for and to show compassion to these children and their families in every community. For The One exists to engage and equip these faith communities to better serve the children and families they are called to serve. By mobilizing faith-based partners and connecting them to community networks and resources, together we improve outcomes for vulnerable children and families while strengthening the local support systems available to them.
Awareness produces action. We share practical foster care awareness messages to help faith communities understand the need that exists and the unique role they play.

We are better together. The complex issues that vulnerable children and families face require creative solutions that involve diverse partners who bring different skills to the table.
